Who is Novelfoods?

Novelfoods offers consultancy advice on regulatory affairs, including all aspects of novel foods, food additives, nutrition and food legislation.

Novelfoods was founded and is run by Gareth Edwards, B.Sc., M.Sc., FRSH.

Gareth is an independent consultant with over thirty-five years experience in the food industry.

Qualifications in nutrition include; Member of the Nutrition Society and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Health.

Gareth has first hand experience in the toxicological and nutritional evaluation of novel foods, having been responsible for the safety evaluation of myco-protein (‘Quorn’) prior to its UK approval.

He was the Chair of the ILSI Europe Expert Group on the Safety Evaluation of Novel Foods that published its conclusions in 2003.

Gareth also has extensive experience of the regulatory approval processes for novel foods and food additives in Europe, coupled with a detailed knowledge of UK and EU food legislation.

Due to his considerable experience and ongoing exposure to the food industry he has an unrivaled understanding and awareness of the major nutrition and health issues that affect the food industry.
